Frequently Asked Questions About Moving

We are going to answer some of the frequently asked questions that our customers typically throw at us. You can give us a call if there is a question we weren't able to cover, and we will be more than happy to provide you the answers you need.

Are you licensed and insured?
Absolutely. We will be more than happy to provide you with proof of our license and insurance documentation. The PUC regulates all local movers, and we will be able to provide you with our license number upon request.

What is the best time to move?
Moving companies are mostly busy in the warm months from May to September. If you plan to relocate during these months, you should coordinate with your movers earlier to ensure that they can accommodate your move.  Further, moving companies are usually jam-packed on Fridays and Saturdays. If you don't want the hassle and you want to be accommodated right away, schedule your move on weekdays instead of a weekend.

How do I choose the best Moving Company?
Do your homework. Maximize your resources by searching the internet for the best local Moving Company near you. You can also check out BBB's website, where you can check if there are any complaints filed against the company you are looking to hire. It will also help if you will check different review sites to check what customers have to say about the company. Another useful way to look for a moving company is by asking your family or friends for their personal recommendations.

Be wary of companies that appear on Yelp, but are not licensed and insured. Make it a habit to check with the PUC if the moving company is licensed.
Do not always trust a broker you just met on the internet. Work directly with the moving company you want to hire to make sure you are dealing with a legitimate company.  You can use the following website for your reference:  Public Utilities Commission (PUC)

How will I be charged?
Local moving companies are regulated by the PUC that requires companies to compute the cost on an hourly rate if the move is under a hundred miles. If the move goes beyond 100 miles, then you will be charged by the weight of the shipment.

You can get the hourly rate of the moving company when you contact them over the phone. However, it may be challenging to determine the exact mile count unless the moving company sees the items you will move. Nevertheless, you can ask the moving company about the average cost of their moving service. Do not hire the service of a moving company that charges too low or too high from the rest. Moving companies like them may not be the best choice because just because the rate is expensive doesn't mean the quality of the service is excellent.

Can I get an estimate?
A consultant needs to come to your home to carry out a visual inspection before they can provide you with an accurate written estimate. The written estimate should be your guide for the cost of the service once you've arrived at your destination. The actual cost would be dependent on how long the move took. The estimate may change but shouldn't go beyond your cap, unless there are details you failed to disclose the movers that affected the service.

Will you send me a confirmation?
Yes. Once you get in touch with us and schedule the day of your move, we will immediately send you a confirmation. We can send it through email or mail, whichever is convenient for you. Along with the confirmation is a copy of the contract. Please read through the fine print. Make sure everything written is accurate, especially the dates and addresses. If you see anything that is not right in the contract, give us a call, and we will rectify it right away.

Should I be home on the scheduled day of my move?
Yes. You need to be there to sign important papers and guide the movers on which items should be moved or not. Once the moving company has loaded your items in the truck, we will ask you to walk us through the process to avoid missing items while in transit.

Once the movers arrive at the destination, they will unload the boxes and put them in the respective rooms. According to your instruction, the movers will place your furniture in the room, you specify. It will make the job of the movers easier if you are able to tell them where exactly you want the furniture to be placed. If they will keep changing the position of your furniture, it will cause delays and take a longer time for them to finish the job.

How do I handle my pets?
You should make sure that your pets are in their carriers before the arrival of the moving company. Cats and dogs can be very curious. Dogs can be aloof to strangers, so make sure that they are tied up in their carrier. Animals of any kind cannot be loaded in the truck.

What do I do with my children on the day of the move?
It is ideal to schedule the move during schooldays when you have young children. It will be easier to move when they are in school because your attention will be divided when they are also home. Believe us when we say that it would be a less stressful moving day when your children are not home with you.

Should I tip the movers?
Moving companies accept tips. The standard tip for movers is 10-15% of the total cost of the moving job. They will divide this evenly among themselves.

Should I provide drinks or food for the movers?
While the movers will surely appreciate it if you provide them with water, it is not entirely necessary. It will be very kind of you to offer water during a hot day, to keep the movers hydrated.
